Feminist Approach ?

The issue of human rights has always been a huge debate in our society. Human rights refer to an idea that everyone despite the differences of identity such as nationality, class, race, gender and religion is qualified to gain access to basic rights and freedoms. They must and should be given allowance to gain access to these things no questions ask because it is what they should have as human. It sounded so simple and easy but things are way more complicated in reality. Some people treat human rights as a privilege instead of necessities.
Even if the access is granted to us, human. Another question will rise. Does the access to the basic rights and freedom equal? This is where women’s issue comes into the picture. Despite not having a gender specification in the idea of human rights, it seems to be more favouring towards men.
Women were left forgotten and neglected unless their issues have an overlapping with the issue of human rights. Are women not a part of the human race? We have heard news on women being victims of violence and discrimination in our society yet things still prevails. Where did it go wrong? How can a universal idea produce inequality?
What we need is not a universal idea to fight inequality but instead an exclusive approach in creating an inclusive result. We need to take account the differences between both men and women and the consequences that came after when tackling the issue of human’s rights. A universal approach is no longer relevant. Instead of cultivating equality for all, the approach turns into something that is bias towards on party thus making humans right as a privilege that we need to earn.
Instead, we should start practising the Feminist Approach as a tool to tackle the problem of humans right in a more multidimensional way. This will helps in getting a clear picture of how discrimination occurs in a society compare to using the general approach that only looks at the issue through a general overview without taking account the interlink of many aspects of one’s identity and background. The issue of discrimination and inequalities is very subjective and in order to tackle it efficiently, one needs to be critical and analytical about it. The Feminist Approach promotes just that.
It is time to acknowledge that we are different and maybe then we can proudly say Women’s rights as human rights without neglecting and forgetting anyone.
